eBay Launches Service for Malaysia
eBay, The World's Online Marketplace, today announced the launch of eBay Malaysia (www.ebay.com.my), a new localized website that will allow Malaysian buyers and sellers to come together, build a local trading community, and bring new e-commerce opportunities to Malaysia.
The website offers online trading in English with item prices listed in Malaysian ringgit. The site features a simple format that allows new users to quickly and easily learn how to buy and sell on eBay. Individuals and small businesses in Malaysia can list and sell goods and services on the site at no charge.
"The launch of eBay Malaysia will help us to provide even greater economic opportunity for local buyers and sellers," said Bill Cobb, senior vice president of eBay International. "Many thousands of Malaysians are already using eBay, and we are happy to provide them with their own dedicated website."
Still in its early stages, online shopping in Malaysia is growing steadily. Business-to-consumer e-commerce in Malaysia is expected to grow from $1.1 billion to $3.0 billion over the next three years, according to IDC's Internet Commerce Model (January 2004).
