Hauppauge Revamps WinTV PC Adaptor
The Hauppauge WinTV USB2 turns a PC into a TV and provides enhanced picture quality. The new model also includes an MPEG encoder to record and share video -- MPEG is the ultra-compact standard for digital video on the PC and the Internet.
The new WinTV USB2 is aggressively priced at £69.99, inc VAT – while the current WinTV USB will continue to be available in all high retail stores at £49.99, inc VAT. The original WinTV USB has been Hauppauge's bestselling TV-on-a-PC product for the last year and will remain the product of choice for users without a USB2.0 port on their PC.
The WinTV USB2 is a plug-and-play external TV adapter for notebooks and desktop PCs. It plugs into a spare USB2.0 socket on the PC and a normal television aerial. Software on the PC tunes the box to the terrestrial stations (BBC ONE, BBC TWO, ITV 1, Channel 4 and five) and owners can watch TV in a resizable window or select full screen mode.
Record and share
The built-in MPEG encoder in the WinTV USB2 allows owners to record TV programmes or to digitise home movies from a camcorder, for example. The format provides Video-quality recordings and stores them on the PC's hard disk
The unit is highly portable, being the size of a deck of cards and weighing just 183g, and can be used on a home PC to watch and record programmes, then carried to work to keep one eye on the news (or Olympics, football, rugby etc) whilst working. Laptop owners could even enjoy their recordings whilst on the train!
The WinTV USB2 package includes a TV and USB cable, video capture software and comes with a 2 year Warranty.
