Motorola Unveils MTP850 and MTM800 TETRA Terminals

Motorola today announced the addition of two new TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) terminals to its wide portfolio, the MTP850, the shortest TETRA portable on the market, and the MTM800 mobile radio. Offering a suite of new features aimed at the growing migration to integrated voice and data applications, such as simultaneous voice and data, USB connectivity for programming and, a first for TETRA radios, the ability to support true multi slot IP packet data for faster data transfer, the radios are innovatively designed to help Motorola's customers use TETRA technology to its full potential.

Customer benefits of the MTP850 and MTM800 include:

-- Simultaneous voice and data capabilities - enable users to receive and send messages when on a voice call - maximizing efficiency and ensuring minimal time loss, vital in mission critical situations.
-- Ability to support multi slot IP (Internet Protocol) packet data - giving a data transfer rate of up to 4 times faster than typical TETRA terminals - again saving vital time.
-- New security architecture - all Motorola TETRA terminals offer the highest levels of security based on ETSI TETRA Secure Services such as Air Interface Encryption. Complementing this, the MTP850 and MTM800 support Enhanced End-2-End Encryption through a dedicated hardware module.
-- In addition the new radios are designed to offer protection from attacks through the use of software Digital Signatures. All software applications including radio code and Java applications must be digitally signed, which stop hackers altering or downloading software to compromise the radio.
-- WAP compatibility - enhances the capabilities of the terminal to browse and access enterprise databases. Wireless access to data bases and information sources empowers the user and helps improve efficiency
-- USB programming - enabling field based programming to take place much faster and therefore much more efficiently, software updates become up to 4 times faster.

MTP850
The Motorola MTP850 is the - shortest TETRA terminal on the market at only 12.5cm in height, making it particularly easy to wear on the shoulder or a belt. The terminal comes with enhanced memory capacity, free for user applications so customers can buy or develop applications to suit their needs, whether it be license plate database access, force databases, report generation or maps. Future WAP and Java compatibility ensures customers have a wide choice available to them.
A sister product to Motorola's successful MTH800, the 800 Mhz MTP850 also has:

-- A 65k color screen display for clear graphics and text
-- Powerful, 1 Watt crystal clear audio
    -- Supports Enhanced End-2-End Encryption
-- A cellular style user interface optimized for TETRA - familiar to many users and intuitive and easy to use.
-- Integrated GPS (Global Positioning System) helps ensure the safety of personnel with features such as emergency alarm activation that sends user's ID as well as location back to command and control.

The radio is designed specifically to meet the needs of the demanding PMR (Private Mobile Radio) user so it has large buttons and a large emergency button - making it very easy to use even with restrictive clothing, such as gloves.

MTM800
The MTM800 is the first mobile terminal on the market capable of supporting multi-slot IP packet data - giving faster data transfer speeds.
The terminal also has a fully integrated GPS receiver for improved resource management and staff protection. The GPS feature includes programmable triggers for location updates including an emergency alarm or time or distance based updates. It has a new powerful processor and extended 16MB memory in support of future features and applications. The terminal comes complete with an optional enhanced End-2-End encryption module to help protect from eavesdropping or hacking.
The MTP850 and MTM800 are on display on Motorola's stand (B7) at the TETRA World Congress in Vienna, Austria.
