Intel Is Not Going To Support Wi-Fi
Intel Corp. confirmed on Friday that it was not going to add support for wireless LANs to its new 915/925X 'Grantsdale' chipset. Too much competition, says Intel's press-service.
Intel decided to discontinue its efforts to deliver its Wireless Connect product after evaluating feedback from its major OEM customers. It seems, that the most of them didn't want to buy WLAN-enabled chipsets because of security concerns, and others -- due to a wide availability of much cheaper WiFi access equipment from other vendors.
"The OEMs came back to us and said, 'We don't think we really need this right now.' So we decided to step back," says Bill Leszinske, director of Intel’s Digital Home Initiative.
