LANDesk Software Unveils New Security Management Suite

LANDesk Security Suite Addresses the Increasing Need for Enterprise Security Management; Helps IT Organizations Secure Devices Inside and Outside the Firewall

LANDesk Software, a leading provider of integrated desktop, server and mobile device management solutions, today unveiled LANDesk(R) Security Suite -- a solution built on the company's award-winning systems management architecture. This new suite of integrated components is aimed at helping customers defend against device-level security threats such as spyware, malware, worms, unauthorized access and vulnerabilities.

LANDesk Security Suite addresses an area that is emerging as a critical concern to enterprise IT departments: how to provide effective device level security in environments that are increasingly mobile and decentralized, with an increasing number of entry points into the corporate network. Enterprise organizations are at increased risk of spyware and malware attacks when users access the Web for browsing or personal use -- whether or not they are protected by the enterprise firewall. Helping IT organizations proactively prevent these attacks reduces downtime, saves on helpdesk costs and increases overall corporate productivity.

"Chicago Tribune has more than 3,700 devices such as desktop computers that need to be managed and effectively secured. Previously, that meant using a variety of disjointed products and services, but with LANDesk Security Suite, we expect the single-console interface and multi-function software to reduce exposure to spyware and viruses while increasing uptime and IT efficiency," said Sudhaman Gopalan, LAN/security administrator, Chicago Tribune.

Over the last year, LANDesk Software engineers have added an array of security management solutions to LANDesk's powerful management architecture. Now, instead of deploying multiple products with overlapping capabilities, IT departments have a single, unified console and infrastructure for managing traditional configuration management tasks as well as security management tasks.

"With LANDesk Security Suite, we continue expanding our device management solutions in direct response to customer needs for greater security at the desktop, laptop and mobile device level," said Dave R. Taylor, vice president of worldwide marketing for LANDesk Software. "By tightly integrating increased security management capabilities with our robust systems management architecture, we intend to provide the market's most comprehensive patch, asset and security management solution."

LANDesk Security Suite integrates multiple security technologies and capabilities into a single, easy-to-use management console. The solution will help both corporate management and IT staff achieve higher efficiency by providing tools that solve their top security concerns including:

-- Spyware detection and removal capabilities to avoid system performance degradation and crashes

-- Robust, proactive patch management capabilities to enable rapid patch deployment, shaving critical time out of the patch management process

-- Security threat analysis to eliminate device security flaws, including group memberships, unnecessary services, Internet connection firewall status, anonymous user accounts, and more

-- Unwanted application blocking to limit access to troublesome applications, including peer-to-peer file sharing, as well as malware trojans

-- Connection Control Manager to limit the networks a client can access, verify lists of authorized connections, and enable or disable USB ports, modems, drives, ports or wireless access

Industry analysts have commented extensively on the merging of traditional configuration management tools with the newly created category of security management tools. LANDesk Software is the first configuration management vendor to introduce a broad, enterprise-level toolbox for managing security within a corporate environment, and IT customers will benefit from this powerful combination.

"Since the majority of desktop and server vulnerabilities are the result of missing patches and configuration errors, an effective vulnerability management program requires: the definition of security configuration policies; an evaluation and on-going audit of the environment with respect to those policies; and a marshaling of resources to fix existing configuration errors and to eliminate their root cause," said Mark Nicollet of Gartner Research.
