Fixed-line and Broadband Regulation Around the World
Regulators review and adjust interconnection mandates, wholesale pricing regimes and unbundling policies
Interconnection regulation presents a minefield of issues for regulators and the broadband industry--for both incumbents and new entrants, according to the Yankee Group Global Fixed-line and Broadband Regulatory Dashboard.
"Interconnection remains one of the most complex, hotly disputed and unresolved issues confronting both liberalized and liberalizing nations," says Dianne Northfield, program manager of the Yankee Group's global regulatory research. "Regulatory agendas are also squarely focused on review of service provision and ownership line-of-business restrictions that limit the ability of operators to provide integrated services. In addition, new services, which combine elements of different media in their production and distribution, are presenting major challenges for traditional regulatory classifications and are forcing regulatory adjustment."
In ongoing policy review processes, national regulators are increasingly drawing on international benchmarking exercises to gain insight and understanding of different policy models and outcomes. The Global Fixed-line and Broadband Regulatory Dashboard responds to this increasing demand for comparative data from operators, vendors and regulators.
The Global Fixed-line and Broadband Regulatory Dashboard is an interactive searchable database of current regulatory conditions in multiple jurisdictions that is continuously updated as regulators review existing rules and intervene in fixed-line and broadband markets.
