APC Announces SurgePlus Next Generation Surge Suppressor
American Power Conversion (APC) announced an expansion of its SurgeArrest surge protection list, with the SurgePlus surge protector plus battery back up for high performance computers and electronics.

Aimed at users looking for an entry-level, inexpensive surge protection solution, the SurgePlus offers affordable, advanced surge protection for home computers, phone lines and electronics against lightning, surges and spikes, as well as battery back up for brownouts and blackouts.

It has four surge protected, localised outlets, with two outlets also providing battery backup. The unit's battery backup feature can keep a computer and monitor up and running when the power goes out, giving the user enough time to shut down gracefully, without risking the loss of valuable data and productivity. Units are available with BS1363 for the UK, Schucko CEE7 for Continental Europe and French/Belgium style outlets.

The SurgePlus also offers telephone, fax and modem/DSL line protection, safeguarding equipment from "back door" surges on the telephone line. Additional features include a Protection Working indicator, plug activated shutters and a 1.8 metre cord.

"Lightning and power surges can permanently ruin electronic equipment," says Michael Adams, UK & Ireland Country Manager, APC. "Changes in voltage cause lockups and loss of work. This unit will not only protect hardware from the threat of bad power, but its battery backup offering assists in the shielding of information."

The SurgeArrest surge protector plus battery backup is available for £49.99 or €69.99. These products also come with a £50,000 or €75,000 equipment protection policy, a two-year product warranty and a data recovery warranty (see policies for details).
