Ubuntu Linux Preview Finally Released

Ubuntu (which means "Humanity to Others" in Zulu) Project has finally released a preview of its desktop Linux operating system based on Debian and featuring GNOME 2.8 platform.

Also a stable edition is set for release only on October 13th (and scheduled to be updated every half a year), the most curious geeks can get a taste of things to come with this Ubuntu 4.1 Preview aka "The Warty Warthog".

Ubuntu includes about a thousand pieces of software, starting with the Linux kernel version 2.6 and Gnome 2.8, and covering every standard desktop application from word processing and spreadsheet applications to Internet access applications, Web server software, e-mail software and games.

All you need to enjoy the fruits of this international project is a broadband connection and a CD-recorder, since you will need to download a disk image and burn it yourself. Those broadband-impaired registered users can, however, order a pressed CD.

Ubuntu 4.1 Preview will run on any machine built on an x86, AMD64 and Power PC chips.
