Siemen Partners with Maxis on 3G/UMTS

Siemens will deliver and install infrastructure for the Maxis 2G switching network in Malaysia as well as upgrade the existing switching infrastructure to a 3G/UMTS mobile network based on W-CDMA transmission technology. This is the third 3G/UMTS order for Siemens in Asia.

The contract also includes the option of deploying 3G/UMTS radio network equipment and professional services, including network design and system integration. This will ensure that Maxis can quickly move to meet future customer growth in mobile data services.

Siemens has been working with Maxis since 1995 as a supplier of 2G/GSM mobile technology. Maxis is Malaysia's largest mobile provider with a current customer base of 5.12 million (as of June 2004) with over 40 per cent market share.
