Pioneer BDC-S02 Blu-ray drive goes to the U.S.
Pioneer will soon bring its cheap-o BDC-S02 Blue-ray combo-drive to the United States, potentially making a giant leap for the Blu-ray standard towards winning the cold format war against Toshiba's HD DVD.

The Pioneer BDC-S02 Blu-ray drive will feature 5x BD-ROM, BD-R, and BD-RE, and 2x dual layer read speed. The device is not capable of burning Blu-ray disks but at least it will burn conventional CDs and DVDs.

The only problem that can potentially off-set the BDC-S02's miserable price is that you'll have to buy an HDCP-compatible video card and a powerful PC to handle the video stream. Any way, it's not that bad for a recommended street price of some $300.
