Go solar! HTW S116 Solar mobile phone from China

Yeah, you got it right: the Chinese HTW Electronics company claims that their new HTW S116 Solar mobile has a set of photovoltaic cells designed to recharge the phone's Li-Ion battery while in the wilderness or during natural disasters (the Sun going Supernova not included, but it can't go Supernova, so -- who cares?).





The secret is that the mobile's entire surface is covered with tiny solar cells producing enough energy to ensure 20-25 minutes of talk time after 40 minutes in direct sunlight. And even if your battery went dead in the night, you still can talk provided you have at least five candles burning.

It is not really clear, whether the phone is a vaporware or is close to production. It was presented during CeBIT and claimed to be equipped with a 1.3 Mpx digital camera, external memory card slot and 320×240 pixels QVGA display, Unwired View says.

No info on S116's estimated price is available yet.
