Japanese Scitec company has released its new babe: the Scitec IR-001W internet radio. The box uses a local WLAN to access the Internet (it's compatible with WEP and WPA security protocols so you don't have to lift your WLAN-protection) and play music streams encoded in either MP3, WMA, AAC or RealMedia, so you presumably won't face no special difficulties with almost all online-broadcasters.

Gizmodo UK reports that the device is based on technology, which lets the IR-001W group radio stations based on geography, genre, name and user's prefs.

The radio features only monophonic sound amplification, but there is also a stereo output jack, so you'll presumably be able to hook it into existing home stereo system and get a tolerable sound quality.

The device will go on sale on July 12 and will retail for about $261.
