Sony plans to introduce its new Sony NV-U71T nav-u personal GPS navigation device later this year in conjunction with real-time traffic service, which will require a separate subscription for some $5.

The device, GeekZone is reporting, is built with an RDS-TMC real-time traffic receiver, so prospective owners will be notified of areas with heavy traffic and automatically rerouted to less busy streets. Real-time notifications are also available, but the service will cost you $4.95 after initial three-month trial.

The Sony NV-U71T nav-u comes with a 3.5" touch screen, which can be operated with a set of pre-set hand gestures, such as "take me home", when a driver needs to draw an inverted "V" sign on the screen to get the mode activated. A set of U.S. and Canadian maps comes pre-loaded on the device's 2GB memory card.
