AMD-Based Laptop for $498 from Linare

Linare starts selling an AMD-based laptop running on Linux.





Features of the laptop include an AMD Athlon 1800+ processor, 40 GB Hard drive, 128 MB RAM, CD ROM, Ethernet Interface, and Linare Linux OS. It also comes with Open Office suite, a full office suite compatible with Microsoft Office documents, which includes word processing, spreadsheet and presentation tools.

Linare's decision to produce the laptop was based on the success of its very popular and affordably priced PC, launched in July of 2003.

The company is also offering a higher-end model of the laptop for $598. Features of the upgraded version include an AMD 1800+ processor, 40 gigabytes hard disk drive, 256 MB RAM, a DVD ROM drive, Ethernet interface, wireless support and Linare Linux OS. This laptop also comes with the Open Office software package.

Both laptops will be distributed through Linare's partner companies, including popular retail outlets Amazon.com and Wal-Mart.
