Network Appliance Issues Internet Security Advisory Against Spyware Threats
Spyware (also known as adware, sneakware, snoopware or malware) is any technology that aids in gathering information on the Internet about a person or organisation without their knowledge. Users and organisations that do not take preventive measures are subjected to invasion of personal privacy, theft of intellectual property, increase in spam, network congestion, security compliance challenges, legal implications and vulnerability.
Spyware is a software that is installed on a system without user's consent and is typically picked up by downloading software from the Internet, visiting deceptive Web sites, or clicking on pop-up ads or links. When Spyware sneaks into a system, it uses 'back doors' or secret transmissions to gather personal information. Also, Spyware communicates 'behind the scenes', therefore attacks are not only difficult to detect, but also difficult to remove. As a result, spyware attacks are becoming more rampant.
