Symantec Supports NCSA's Awareness Efforts
Symantec will participate in the October National Cyber Security Awareness Month initiative organized by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA).
As a founding sponsor of the NCSA, Symantec will also support the NCSA's national public service announcement campaign to promote online security among individuals, small businesses and schools.
According to Symantec's September 2004 Internet Threat Security Report, the time between the announcement of a new vulnerability to the appearance of a code or virus to exploit the vulnerability has now dropped to 5.8 days. Findings from the study also indicate that the motives behind today's cyber attacks are focused more than ever on criminal financial gain. As a result, data from the report suggests that attacks in the form of phishing and spyware will continue to increase in the coming months.
