Texas Instruments Named Number One Worldwide DSL CPE Supplier
Texas Instruments Incorporated is the top supplier of DSL customer premises equipment worldwide with 37% market share. TI rose two positions from its 2003 ranking.
Key to TI's success in the DSL CPE market has been its ability to deploy the AR7, the industry's first router-on-chip announced in April 2003. In addition, TI has introduced new residential gateway designs based on the AR7 family of products that combine key technologies from TI's broadband portfolio including Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and wireless LAN (WLAN).
Today TI engages with the top ten OEM and ODM suppliers worldwide.
"ADSL modem manufacturers need solutions that can scale from a simple bridge router to a full featured residential gateway," said Steve Rago, principal analyst with iSuppli. "Products that leverage TI's AR7 platform are targeted exactly at this need. TI has the expertise necessary to integrate broadband technologies like voice and Wi-Fi which eliminate issues manufacturers face when working with multiple vendors and help service providers reach the market faster with enhanced broadband services."
TI has leveraged its breadth of broadband expertise to develop four AR7-based platform extensions including the recently introduced AR7VWi, which adds voice and wireless home networking functionality to routers. TI expects future extensions to incorporate video, delivering on the promise of triple-play broadband service.
