Daffodil Software launches Daffodil Organizer e-Mail Client
Daffodil Software, the developers of the popular Java database, Daffodil DB, announced the alpha launch of an RDBMS based Open Source e-mail client - Daffodil Organizer.
Daffodil Organizer is a cross platform stand alone e-mail client, the only requirement being a JVM. It has been Open Sourced at SourceForge.net and is the outcome of Daffodil Software's commitment towards Open Source community in producing useful and quality applications that caters to the day-to-day needs of general users.
Daffodil Organizer follows a series of Open Source initiatives like the successful Open Sourcing of Daffodil Replicator at SourceForge.net and making Daffodil DB compatible with Compiere, one of the leading Open Source ERP+CRM package.
The alpha version of Daffodil Organizer uses an RDBMS to store all the e-mail objects like mails, account information, contacts etc. The very fact that e-mail objects are stored in an RDBMS that supports Database Encryption makes the data highly secure. Further, the use of RDBMS gives endless flexibility in organizing your e-mail objects.
Daffodil Organizer is a sample application build upon Daffodil DB and is a fine example of its bundling capabilities. Daffodil Organizer is also compatible with other popular databases like SQL Server, MySQL, and Derby (configuration files of these databases are available with the package) which gives flexibility to the user in choosing a database of his/her choice.
For windows users, Daffodil Organizer adds an extra feature of importing the mails from Outlook Express and Microsoft Office Outlook.
